My most recent book, America’s Social Arsonist (University of California Press) is a biography of Fred Ross, the legendary community organizer who trained Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Working in the Shadows (Nation Books) chronicles a year I spent working alongside Latino immigrants in low-wage, frequently backbreaking industries, from Arizona lettuce fields to a poultry plant in Alabama.
There’s No José Here (Nation Books) is narrative non-fiction that follows a Mexican immigrant family in New York City. Calling All Radicals (Nation Books) is a memoir/guidebook/brief history of community organizing.
